Help me sleep!

Dear Energy Lady,
What's the right kind of energy to get a good night's sleep?  And how do you get it?

Signed,
Tired All the Time

Dear Tired,
The challenge for busy people is that our minds are often full when it's time for bed.  And since our thoughts generate emotions, which is really energy in motion, it's a problem.  The more we think, the more we feel.  The more we feel, the more vivid our energy becomes.  As author Carolyn Myss says, our biography is our biology, so the more we stay engaged with our personal story as we try to fall asleep, the more our physical body responds.  And unfortunately, most of those responses do not lead to sweet, restful sleep.

If your mind is truly active when you lay down, you can try running through everything for which you are/were grateful during the day.  That will help raise your vibration if it is low.  Or you can try imagining that you have a helper in your brain that is sweeping out the corners and "turning off the lights."  Once the "room" is empty, it's time to sleep.

If your personal story still won't quit, try telling yourself, "I am No-Body.  I am No-Thing."  Or you can try, "I am Every-Body.  I am Every-Thing."  This is simply an acknowledgement of the truth that you are Source energy in form, as is everyone and everything else.   This little mantra helps you disconnect from a lot of the emotions associated with a human story, and can make it easier to release, relax and sleep.

Another energy technique comes from author Eckhart Tolle, who suggests turning all of your attention to the energy field in your feet, and then slowly bringing your attention up your legs, into your torso, across your arms and then into your neck, face and head.   Because it is impossible to think two thoughts at once, as long as your attention is on your energy field, it is not on your thoughts.  As those get starved for energy because of the lack of attention, they fade, and it's easier to fall and stay asleep.

Finally, you can simply say, "Everything is all right," over and over and over.  This affirms the truth that we cannot get life "wrong," and that there is great love in this dimension to support us.

Sweet dreams!

Love,
EL
