Interesting Gossip

Dear Energy Lady:
Several of my co-workers like to exchange gossip. Very, very interesting gossip. I always feel bad after after hearing it. Not right after, mind you, but soon enough. What are your thoughts on this?

Signed,
Too Curious

Dear Curious,
One of the reasons why people are attracted to gossip is because it makes us feel powerful.  What makes it "interesting" is the fact that someone else is likely to be hurt by their own actions, and we are fascinated by the pain of others because we are glad it is not us.

By judging others, we feel superior.  But the sad part is that the part that feels "superior" is actually the smallest, least significant part of ourselves--our physical identity.  That is only the visible part of who we truly are, and when we make it denser, we block the flow of higher, more divine energies that are trying to flow through us, as us.

Also, besides the pangs of conscience that occur after gossiping, we feel weak because we've temporarily disconnected from the truth of who we are.  And who is that?  The one who sees and takes joy in the beauty and good in each person, and creates our world with every thought and emotion.

So the next time you're tempted by gossip, see if you can turn to your true source of power--the one within you that want you to be happy and free of limiting judgements and behaviors.  When you hear gossip again, ask, "Where is the love in this?"

Then turn away, and look for something that pleases you.  Focus your attention, and your blessings, on that. The attention on what is right and good will help energy to flow through you.

Love,
The Energy Lady
