Dear Energy Lady,
I sell for a big company. They just upped our goals, and for the first time, I'm falling behind. Any energetic suggestions?
Signed,
Eager to make my numbers
Dear Numbers,
It's hard to tell from your letter what the definition of "falling behind" is. In other words, were you the #1 salesperson before the goals were raised? Or were you just a member of the pack, doing the same as everyone else and now they're ahead of you?
Either way, here are a couple of questions that might help unblock you energetically:
--If you've never been top salesperson, have you always wanted to be? If so, you will need to break through the pattern of believing you're one of the pack. However, if doing so would somehow make you lose the closeness you felt with the rest of the team, you might be resistant to breaking out ahead of everyone else. That resistance would make it difficult, or even impossible, for new or bigger opportunities to reach you.
--If you were the top salesperson before but have now fallen behind, then ask yourself two questions: 1) what others are now doing differently that is helping them connect with more clients and/or 2) what has changed in either your own belief and behavior? These are very left-brained, logical questions, but sometimes energy flow is blocked by something as simple as a few habits that just need to be aligned with the new reality.
Here are some other things that might help:
--Meditation. Relaxing completely--letting go of thoughts and feelings--can open doors of possibility that you could never even imagine. So if you have simply been stumped by who you might need to contact, this approach could help enormously.
--If your thoughts are too wild for meditating, try exercise or doing any other activity that allows you to forget about work for a while. Again, taking your attention off what isn't happening is a good way to release the blocking energy around it.
--If you want to use your thoughts productively, try visualizing. Imagine yourself shaking hands with your clients. See the signed contract in your in-box. Hear yourself telling your manager about how the deal came about. Taste a drink or the meal you'll have to celebrate your success. In other words, bring the experience of success to life in your imagination until it becomes so real to you, you know it instinctively. That's when you'll likely see it materialize.
--You can also stop making this about you. If you reach the goal, what will be true in the world? You didn't say what you sell, but if it helps your clients be safer, save money, save lives, make the world more beautiful or has any other positive purpose, then forget about the numbers and start thinking about the opportunity you're being given to improve life for others.
--Finally, realize that life gives us situations that allow us to release our deepest fears, which are often that we are inadequate and unlovable. If this rings true for you in any way, then maybe it's time to let this go. And if it's not true, see if you can find whatever underlying fear is holding you back at this time. There likely is something there, or you would have embraced the larger goal with open arms and reached or surpassed it with ease. It would have excited you with its potential, not intimidated you.
I wish you renewed success!
Love,
EL

Goal getting
Dear Energy Lady,
My mind is filled with goals, but even when I get started on them, I never seem to reach them. Is there anything I can do energetically to change that?
Signed,
Weary of trying
Dear Weary,
This is going to sound crazy, but stop trying to reach your goals. The key word in that sentence is "trying." When you "try," you basically disconnect yourself from having your goals fulfilled. Energetically, you can't both "try" and "have." You have to make a choice. So choose "have."
I can hear your argument--"but I don't have the goals, and my body knows that I'm lying!" So consider this: your thoughts originate not in your brain, but in your mental body. By the time you're aware of them, they have come through several different dimensions. So you actually do "have" them, or rather--they have "had" you for quite some time. They're yours in their vibrational state; they're attached to you, and they've been around long enough that you can't help but want to experience them in physical form.
OK, now I hear you saying, "But I haven't manifested them!" Again, yes you have--the thoughts are your proof. What you haven't done is take action on them and/or fulfill them in the physical world. And that's an entirely different thing.
So here's another perspective. The problem with reaching goals is just that--there's a mental separation between where you are now and where you'll be when you complete them. In that separation is time, effort, space, etc. But all that is just mind junk, since in the quantum universe, time is not linear and effort is not needed. If you don't believe me, just visualize the result out loud. Imagine not that you are at the starting line, but at the finish line, with your goal fulfilled. Close your eyes and describe what you see, hear, smell, taste and feel when your happy ending has come true. By doing this, you've made your goal come true in this moment. That's really all you need to do to start bringing in what you need to experience it in physical form.
If that's too esoteric, here's an easy trick to try: just find something fun to do that gets you started. As Yoda said in Star Wars, "Do or not do. There is no try." Or, as Nike says, "Just do it." But make sure you're enjoying yourself. As long as you're enjoying what you're doing, you're resonating with the feeling of having the result of the goal. If you're not, question the goal. Is this something you think you should want, or something that you FEEL that you want? If it's the former, that may be one reason why you're not fulfilling the goals. If it's the latter, then just keep doing one more thing each day that feels great and moves you forward.
So stop goal SETTING, and start goal GETTING. Get that you already have it, or you couldn't be thinking about it. Get that you are an energetic being, and that "trying" isn't necessary. Get the feeling of having the goal fulfilled. And then get going and have some fun!

Out of control
I love visualization. I have a really wicked imagination, and it can conjure up all kinds of great stuff that make my oh-so-ordinary life seem like a Steven Spielberg adventure. Nothing small or insignificant ever happens to me in my own mind. Between my two ears, I am a character with a story more dramatic than anything on reality TV.
If you've studied energy, then you know that thoughts are how we create the experiences of our lives. Every thought creates a corresponding emotion. Every emotion changes our vibrational field. Every vibration is magnetic to energy potentials in the zero point field. All magnetism transforms energy. In other words, when you sit down to deliberately think and feel, you'd better be careful what you wish for, because you're going to get it, although not necessarily in the form you expected.
That's what happened to me last night. My religion of birth and choice is Jewish, and last night was Erev Yom Kippur, the start of the holiest day of the year, Yom Kippur. If Jews are going to show up at any one service each year, this is the one. And my husband and I belong to a huge congregation; far more than fit into the parking lot near the temple.
As we drove towards the temple last night, it was pouring. Worse, a cold wind was blowing--the first of the season. Even though we were dressed for the weather, I didn't want to walk outside one step more than we absolutely had to. So the whole drive over, I was visualizing a good space in the temple parking lot.
When we pulled up, the first service was letting out, and cars were pouring out of the lot. We were the first car in line to turn in from the left. Dozens of other cars were in line facing us on the other side of the street, but I paid them no heed, since I assumed that the police officer directing traffic would wave us in alternately. I was thrilled; I could see the spot I wanted near the door from where we were waiting.
But when the last car had vacated the lot from the first service, the officer blocked the entrance from our direction with his body and very sternly waved us on. Then he turned to the cars in the other direction, who only needed to make a right turn into the lot, and started waving them in. My heart sank. By the time we made it around the block to join that line, all of the available spaces would undoubtedly be filled.
So we pulled forward, but now I was really edgy and unhappy. As my husband turned the corner to look for another spot, there was a car blocking our way. "Go around them!" I insisted, figuring we now needed the time to walk back many blocks in order to be on time. He was irritatingly calm. "Just wait."
I was not in the mood. "We need to get going!" I insisted, "or we'll be late." Again, he was relaxed, and pointed to the car ahead of us. And sure enough, they pulled away, revealing a great big beautiful spot that was no more than 10 feet from the side door of the Temple. We parked and ran inside, 99% dry and now in a spot where it would be much faster and easier to leave at the end of services. It was a much better place than the one I first imagined; my only problem was that I didn't see it.
If I had written myself a letter that night, it would have looked like this:
"Dear Energy Lady,
I'm a serious control freak. I use visualization to make my controlling nature look more spiritual and accepting, but when it gets right down to it, if I don't get what I want when I want in the way I want, I give up on the energy stuff and figure I can force what I want to make happen. Any advice?"
And I would have answered, "Listen to yourself. 'I didn't see it.' It's not that hard to get what you need, which you can do either through visualization or good old taking action. But if you'd like to get what you truly want, you have to give up on trying to imagine a particular outcome. In other words, when you visualize, you can only imagine what you've already experienced. If you want something better than what you've experienced, then you have to let go and allow it to enter. And it helps to have someone else in the driver's seat (literally or figuratively) when you do."
Love,
The Energy Lady
